Top New Models 2010

In 1967, Valentino Balboni was hired as a test driver for Lamborghini. We talked about it in the pages of Road & Track in more than one occasion. Our design director Richard Baron remembers him clearly as the young Italian than driving a Lamborghini Countach while sitting on your doorstep the open door. Valentino has thrill rides for many of us over the years. It's the classic Italian that does it all with style and in this case, the smoke tire. We all like tire smoke, and he is a master.

Lamborghini would honor him with a special edition of the Gallardo, The most successful Lamborghini ever, it is no surprise. Nor is the fact that they were built 250 this limited edition model as a rear-wheel drive special car drift. (This not only saves weight but allows the final power slides and smoke from the tires.)

550-2 identifies the middle of the assembled V-10 making around 550 horsepower, 2, the fact that the car is rear-wheel drive. Not fooled by the numbers, the engine is the same as at 560-4. The last time we tested weighed 3595 pounds and 560-4 to lose the first part of the unit Gallardo all-wheel drive system shaves about £ 550 a car. The 2010 Chevrolet Corvette lineup gains a new model, the Grand Sport. Performance car Chevy is presented as a coupe and convertible. Both body styles are available in base levels and Gran Sport. Grand Sport replaces the Z51 option package and includes specific style guides, adjusting the suspension, brakes and gears. These models have a 430-hp 6.2-liter engine V8. An optional "mode dual "exhaust system increases horsepower to 436. Transmission choices include a 6-speed manual or 6-speed automatic. Chevy offers other models of high performance Corvette, the Z06 and ZR1, both available only as coupes. Z06 has a 505-hp 7.0-liter V8 6-speed manual transmission, special suspension set ready, tires and brakes. ZR1 has 638 hp supercharged 6.2-liter V8 engine and 6-speed manual transmission. Corvette ZR1 differs from others by its unique Suspension tuning and use of lightweight carbon fiber on the hood, roof, roof bow, front fascia splitter, and moldings. All manual transmission models GM Corvette incorporate new Launch Control, which modulates the engine speed in order to maximize the grip during full-throttle launches. The ZR1 adds a "performance Traction Management "system, which automatically adjusts the traction control and suspension to match high-performance driving. Features security available include ABS, traction control, anti-slip system, and side airbags. Among the available features are a head-up display, navigation system, wireless and mobile.

Absent from the disappearance of the C4 Corvette Grand Sport is back for 2010, this time sporting body Z06 wider, bigger brakes and the option of a coupe or convertible. Another package commemorative label? Not so much.

We know what you're thinking and to be honest, we were thinking too. This is another memorial package, or label a package, instead of 2010 Corvette Grand Sport is a package of benefits in good faith to help you distinguish the different Corvette models further.

Chevrolet's plan to rid the bill of the Vettes Z51 package instead be replaced a new design model only Grand Sport. Everything you know and love the Z51 will be here, but now, with the help of the new Z06 from the body not be confused with lesser driving Vettes base model.

The 6.2-liter LS3 V8 remains the same pumping very capable 430 horsepower and 424 lb-ft of torque or (436 horsepower and 428 lb-ft with the optional two-mode performance exhaust) and is easily manipulated to make their offer through either a manual or six-speed transmission six-speed automatic. Forceps Grand Sport is distinguished by its silver with red lettering and rotors have been expanded to Z06-spec, 14-inch by six-piston calipers on the front and 13.4 inches with four-piston acquisition cards in the back. Also equipped are reviewed shock / spring setup and stabilizer bars heavier. In 2010 Gran Sport rides on unique 18-inch front and 19 inch rear wheels wrapped in sticky 275/35ZR18 and 325/30ZR19 tires in front and behind.

For those who choose to equip their Grand Sport with six-speed manual transmission, Chevrolet will launch in a dry sump system, oil cooler and a differential Rear-mounted battery. All-in-all, these improvements net enthusiast driver 2010 Gran Sport with 0.2 seconds improvement on the current Z51 model.

The Grand Sport can be equipped in either body styles Coupe or Convertible, but whatever you choose, you'll be rewarded with a wide Z06 style front fascia Z06 with a spoiler lip, the only thing missing is the scoop on the nose. Z06-width front fenders replace the stock Vette with an insignia of Grand Sport sitting atop double vertical gills. The rear fenders have been replaced by functional units with Z06 brake cooling ducts. You can have your Grand Sport in any color Corvette available and four different trim levels available (1LT, 2LT, 3LT and 4LT). A package of assets is also available, adding a pair of double stripes on the front fenders in either silver or red. Inside Grand Sport special features embroidered on the seat head rests.

2010 Corvette Grand Sport is publicly announced at the 12th Annual Corvette C5/C6 Birthday Bash National Corvette Museum in Bowling Green, Ky., this weekend. Pricing has not yet been announced, but expect it to be somewhere in the current Z51 package pricing. We will have in-spec Coupe painted in Le Mans Blue (Okay fine, Jet Blue Stream), with red stripes please.

2010 Ferrari Millechili

What it is: two-seater lightweight (2200 pounds or even less) loaded with Formula 1 technology. In many respects will be a successor to the Enzo, but instead of adding power, Ferrari add lightness. Do not worry, the name Millechili what is not in production.

Why is it important: Goodies F1 break into a road car. The technology and light weight make this car spectacularly fast but also fuel consumption.

Platform: A derivative of the F430 space aluminum frame on a wheelbase slightly longer, 104.3 inches. In the mid-engine layout will take a new V-10 of unknown displacement making over 600 horsepower.

Remarkable technology: active aerodynamics manage the airflow over the vehicle, reducing resistance.

Competition: Not much, given the current crop of supercars (Bugatti Veyron, Lamborghini Murcielago, Mercedes SLR McLaren) are too heavy or expensive to be considered worthy competitors.

What could go wrong: Not much. The idea of an ultra-lightweight Ferrari sounds pretty good to us.

Estimated arrival and cost: Production is scheduled to begin in 2010. It is estimated that 300 vehicles will take more than a couple of years. Start saving your Benjamin Franklins as the successor to the Enzo Ferrari will be at least $ 500,000.
