What is the history behind the company Corgi (the toy) packaging of the "Golden Opportunity" James Bond Aston Martin?
Corgi, diecast toy manufacturer produced a limited number of gold Aston Martin DB5 (the James Bond films). Supplied in a single box that looked like a brick gold stock. The gold top "box" has the logos and Corgi James Bond along with the numbers 02 (can be produced in 2002?). The side of the box has words: A golden opportunity. I googled this all you can think, but no luck in finding any information.
The Aston Martin is one of the most famous and most used cars on the James Bond films; http://www.klast.net/bond/cars.html "Thunderball" (registration BMT 216A). A different Aston Martin DB5 (registration BMT 214A) was used in the 1995 Bond film "GoldenEye" in which three different DB5s were used for filming. The BMT 214A also returned in "Tomorrow Never Dies" (1997), and was set to do a cameo at Castle Thane in The World Is Not Enough "(1999), but the scene was cut. Yet another DB5 appeared in "Casino Royale" (2006), but is best known for his roles in "Goldfinger" (1964) … The reason behind the 02's because it's the second time this car was reproduced in gold plate Corgi (although there are others who were not) The second reason behind gold-plating and the box in the form of a gold bar is due in part to the advent of the car in "Goldfinger" and the fascination of rogue gold (leading one of the most famous scenes from the film of a woman completely surrounded by gold) The third reason for the initial casting out a year later of the film.
