HISTORY

In developing the car, as in evolution, there are winners and losers. Those who saw the prototype were sure Italdesign Cala that this was the baby Lamborghini, the spiritual successor Urracco the SIilhouette and Jalpa. Already in 1994, was exactly right. Put down the car that became the heir of that lineage, Luc Donckerwolke designed Gallardo, and it seems loose and exaggerated, with no shades in detail and determined the last century. The Gallardo, all clean lines and geometric precision, still looks fresh and challenging.

Without doubt, drew some applause when it was first shown at the Salon Geneva Motor Show 2003, which provides a squatter, sharper take on Big Brother Murcielago. Both manual and six-speed-coupe models and equipment were available, both powered by the same 492bhp V10 engine. 2005 saw the launch of the Gallardo SE Callisto with its wheels, black roof and adjust the direction and relationships transmission, with increased engine power of 520bhp. Nera special edition model, of which 184 units were produced, was introduced in early 2006.

2006 was a turning point in the development of the Gallardo. Few thought that the engine, gears and directional changes lavished on the SE does not filter down to the 'stock' model Gallardo and so the car MY2006 shown. Despite looking very similar to the previous year's car, this model became a furious sports car more efficient. The equipment levels are improved and a Spider convertible model was released. The following year saw the release of the serious Superleggera coupe, a smaller model volume was 100 kilos lighter than the Gallardo coupe and was targeted at the affluent customer tracking day.

WHAT YOU GET

The shape of the Gallardo works wonderfully well. Although it shares design features of many with his older brother, the Murcielago, the Gallardo is surprisingly small and a little more aggressive with its chopped-off angles. Luc Donkerwolke, the man responsible for locking the two cars, has once again outdone himself. Obviously a Lamborghini, the Gallardo is detailed enough for the distance from the bat. Park the two side by side and you'll appreciate the differences, but such is the success of the lines of the Gallardo as the last bat has adopted a sharper, Gallardo front aspect.

The Spyder is an exciting piece of kit. The Gallardo was designed chassis from the outset with an open top car in mind and therefore has an incredible resistance to twisting. Even with the metal roof cut off, the Gallardo is still much harder than many supercar coupes. Only a very small amount of strengthening work was required, with some reinforcements added to the sills.

Unlike the Murcielago Roadster, a convertible that is devilishly complicated, the construction of what would make a final adjustment of Krypton Factor, the Gallardo shows significant progress with an electrically folding hood mechanism operated by a couple of buttons in the center of the dashboard. Twenty seconds later, it is good to go, the roof is perfectly snug in place or secreted beneath the engine cover and out of danger. The rear screen moves automatically while the hood is raised or lowered and defaults to an elevated position. Unlike its great rival, the Ferrari F430 Spider, Lamborghini actually looks pretty stylish with the top up, the angular style giving a much better resolved profile than the somewhat awkward future of Ferrari.

If the ultimate performance is your goal, look no further than the Gallardo Superleggera. Pirelli P-Zero Corsa tires, optional four-point safety belts carbon ceramic brakes and signal your intention. The key change was the division just over 100 kg dry weight of the vehicle which fell to 1,330 kg largely through extensive use of carbon fiber. The biggest change in style, aside from the splitter of CF and the diffuser was mounting 19-inch forged aluminum wheels with wheel nuts titanium shaving off additional programs. There is also a sticker Superleggera side.

WHAT YOU PAY

Early Gallardos can be found around £ 75,000, while £ 2,500 will be added to the e-box manual sequential gear changes, if desired. However, you need £ 94,000 a year model manual of 06 cars. WHAT TO LOOK FOR

The article carefully with a Gallardo is the clutch. First cars arrived with a clutch plate of a material not entirely dissimilar to Swiss cheese, and there were reports of some cars with a minimum of 1500 miles the clock on their third clutch. The Pirelli P-Zero tires retail at around £ 180 for a pair of suede boots and £ 280 for the rear (fitted and balanced), which means that a new set of rubber will not leave much change from £ 1,000. ON THE ROAD

Against the Clock, the last recorded Gallardo sprint to 60 mph in 3.8 seconds and keep going at 196 mph. The four-wheel drive electronics are not as smart as those of 911 Turbo with respect to the intensification of clean line, but rises at higher speeds and will not begrudge that, the Gallardo behavior mostly as a traditional taillight. Only when really 're pushing on asphalt crust can feel the front tires to bite grip. The most striking is the body control. Drive the same section of the road in a Porsche 911 or even a Ferrari F430 and there would be little more roll, squat and dive. Lamborghini flat planes, almost absorbed into the ground, your tires 19 in. Foursquare strong stance giving the driver confidence levels, almost impregnable.

The Superleggera takes things to another level. The car is definitely stronger than a standard Gallardo but the performance differences do not look much on paper: an identical top speed and torque figure, 0.2s down the sprint to 100 kmh (now 3.8s) and 10bhp added to the power output. On the track, the situation is different with the Superleggera provides superior grip and body control in largely to the choice of tires. Snappy on the border, demands respect, but is enormously capable, well-surfaced, dry tarmac at least. Needless to say, offers Punch Out savage corners.

GENERAL

Before the arrival of the Gallardo, the dream ticket was always an Italian supercar with German build quality. Now such a thing exists, it seems strange that some see fit to complain about an erosion of the Lamborghini brand values. The dome in Sant'Agata hold the belief that pessimists can complain all they want, such as books to demonstrate clearly that this is a winning formula. Gallardos used are generally resistant. For the clutch and uprated service done in the button without cut corners and must not go far wrong.
